Tracert request timed out1/31/2024 ICMP (the protocol used by traceroute) is of the lowest priority and, when higher. If the first 9 show response times then it's not you, and not likely to be your ISP either unless they have many routers involved in the transport. Any lost packets may indicate slow connection problems. I've been getting suboptimal performance lately (good overall bandwidth but variable ping times) from my Comcast cablemodem. It is likely that the 10th hop is dropping ICMP packets and they are not being passed on. If all 4 packets sent are received, then the connection is working fine. The host might have disabled ping responses on its server, or it may be simply offline. The fact that your ping requests time out somewhere 'in the middle' only means that those hosts dont. It means the address refused responding to the ping on hop 13, and retried until the hop limit was reached. Because the router that receives the packet will decrement the TTL by 1, the router will set it to 0 and by doing so will send out a time exceeded. 1.traceroute results dont necessarily indicates a problem. Does tracert send a special request or something that most routers listen for Traceroute sends packets with a TTL starting at 1 and increasing by 1 for each hop until the destination is reached. For example:Tracing route to over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 2 * * * Request timed out. As Josh stated a firewall may be configured to allow HTTP traffic to a particular host but it may not allow ICMP traffic to that same host, so the fact that your ping request times out tells you nothing about the status of that web server. There are a something I dont understand in this case, Ill just list what I think.
